San Diego Summer Attraction News

LEGOLAND California will open its LEGO-themed water park (the world's first!) in June. While most children typically "age out" of LEGOLAND by age 8, the 5.5 acre LEGOLAND Water Park is bound to be a sure hit with older kids too. Southern California's summer heat is a dry heat, typically not humid at all, and splashing around in the water will cool off those hot kids in the most fun way imaginable. Luxury Travel can vouch for the fact that even adults love water parks. The water park will have tube slides, body slides, a raft slide, climbing structures, anda toddler areas.

SeaWorld San Diego is going to debut its long anticipated new dolphin show, just in time for summer travel. This is a theatrical event, with a narrative detailing a young girl's imaginative trip. The show, Blue Horizons, will make use of the talents of several different animal species, including bottlenose dolphins, pilot whales, tropical birds, and, well, people. The people will perform acrobatics in and out of the water, with the marine mammals. Luxury travel planners considering a vacation in San Diego should keep in mind that Blue Horizons has been in the works for a long time, and to be among the first to see this show may be a point of pride for some.

San Diego Zoo's Wild Animal Park has installed four new animal habitats for its Journey into Africa tram tour. Sumer is the perfect time to take the tram tour at the Wild Animal Park, as the heat in Southern California makes the native African animals feel right at home. The new animal attractions here are a 20,800 square foot habitat for Egyptian cranes, wattled cranes, and yellow-billed storks, a 5-acre desert habitat fir Barbary sheep and Somali wild asses, a 20,800 square foot grassy plains habitat for duiker, steenbok, and gazelles, and also a 5-acre flamingo habitat with over 150 flamingoes wading through the water and preening themselves.

The Four Seasons Resort Aviara in Carlsbad is changing owners this summer, and will become the Part Hyatt Aviara Resort. Hyatts are lovely properties, and this luxury resort will retain its award-winning spa, Arnold Palmer-designed 18-hole golf course, and AAA Five Diamond rating.

The Ivy Hotel in downtown San Diego changed owners this year, and is now the Andaz San Diego. Like the Aviara above, the Andaz is part of the Hyatt family of high-end properties. The Hyatt Gold Passport Program is accepted here, so repeat Hyatt guests get additional benefits.

The Cosmopolitan Hotel in San Diego's Old Town historic park will open for summer travel, after having been closed for a major, 3-year long renovation project. The luxury of The Cosmopolitan Hotel is in its history; this building, circa 1827, was home to some of the earliest settlers in San Diego. It's one of the most historically significant buildings still in use in California.

San Diego is wonderful in the summer. The luxury hotels and resorts are on par with those anywhere else in the country, and the family-friendly activities create happy experiences for children. It's no wonder that San Diego is one of Luxury Travel's favorite parts of Southern California for an upscale family vacation.
